DomainKeys Authentication added to Yahoo! email.

Yahoo Inc will be among the first internet email companies to add DomainKeys encryption technology to its email service.Along with a host of other changes to the service, such as inreasing storage limits for free email accounts by 150 per cent, the company’s anti-spam technology will be introduced from today.

DomainKeys uses public/private key cryptograhy to verify email addresses at the domain level, such as yahoo.com. As with most other cryptographic solutions, the system requires that both sedning and receiving email servers are using the technology. Other adopters of DomainKeys include Yahoo’s top competitor Google Inc. which is supporting the system on outgoing email from its beta Gmail service.

America Online has also expressed an interest in testing DomainKeys and One of the Unites States leading ISPs, Earthlink, today announced plans to become the first major intenet service provider to test the system. Brad Garlinghouse, vice-president of Communication Products, Yahoo! Inc. says “Spam is an industry wide issue and we believe collaboration with the internet community is vital to solving the authentication issue. We believe Earthlink’s intention to test DomainKeys is a key milestone in furthering the industry’s fight to protect consumers from email forgery and spam.”

Web experts such as The Apache Foundation have come to a general consensus that the DomainKeys system offers a higher level of security than its leading competitor SenderID, introduced by Microsoft Corp.
