The university of Calgary is about to offer another controversial course, this time students will be taught how to write spamming software.
We say ‘another’ as the first course dealt with learning to write computer viruses (slashdotted here)
"The idea is for the students to learn how these things propagate, how they are created, how they interact with the system and that sort of thing," says John Aycock, who teaches the viruses course.
On one hand you could argue that the ‘real world’ examples will be of use for preventative measures for the future, on the other do they want to be responsible for educating future ROKSO material?
The teacher acknowledged the potential for malware to spread outside the classroom and says numerous precautions are in place including security cameras, a ban on external equipment and the signing of a legal form (which states a breach disqualifies them etc.)
Imagine the certificate
